Online networks and communities are some of the most influential resources individuals can use to help their education and career. Chapter 6 of the textbook states, “knowledge, learning, and innovation can be managed within virtual networks and communities and then leveraged to amplify learning for all” (Nussbaum-Beach, p 92). Using networks can help individuals connect with professionals all around the world. While networking can be extremely helpful, there are some questions one must ask themselves before following everyone and anyone. Look out for key factors that can indicate they are an illegitimate site or individual. Make sure they use a real name and not a pseudonym, see if the content they are sharing is of value, and if it is interesting to you. Creating my own network seemed difficult at first, but after reading the chapter, I felt much more confident in my abilities.
