Chapter 6 Connected Educator
Online networks and communities are
some of the most influential resources individuals can use to help their
education and career. Chapter 6 of the textbook states, “knowledge, learning,
and innovation can be managed within virtual networks and communities and then
leveraged to amplify learning for all” (Nussbaum-Beach, p 92). Using networks
can help individuals connect with professionals all around the world. While
networking can be extremely helpful, there are some questions one must ask
themselves before following everyone and anyone. Look out for key factors that
can indicate they are an illegitimate site or individual. Make sure they use a
real name and not a pseudonym, see if the content they are sharing is of value,
and if it is interesting to you.
Creating my own network seemed
difficult at first, but after reading the chapter, I felt much more confident
in my abilities. I feel that as long as you follow the criteria you look for in
a credible site, to build your own platform, you can gain followers within your
profession. After graduation I want to become a Physician Assistant. I feel
that networks like some of the ones mentioned in the book are a great way to
meet other individuals within the healthcare field. One of the main goals of
the healthcare field is inter-professional collaboration. Inter-professional
collaboration is when professionals from multiple different disciplines such
as; doctors, nurses, physician assistants, occupational therapists, physical
therapists, and more, work together to provide the best care necessary for
their patient. Recently, a lot of inter-professional connections on networking
sites have been happening on Instagram. Many aspiring students, students, and
professionals have accounts where they post about their schooling, work life,
job, etcetera. Using the ideas about how to be successful using online
networks, connecting to other students and professionals in the healthcare field
will be easier than I originally expected.

Hey Megan,
ReplyDeleteI agree that looking out for key factors to see if social media accounts is key to see if they are actually legitimate. I feel like everyone should be private on social media, so that illegitimate accounts can't follow or see your account. Also, using social media like LinkedIn could help anyone in any field network, and connect with people in the same or a similar field of profession.
Hi megan! great post! I feel that any professional can network with people that are in the similar field through the use of media. I never put into perspective how instagram can be used to network with professionals similar to yours. I remember a friend of mine who is in the PT grad program at Stockton telling me about one of her peers having an instagram dedicated to her journey through grad school, and she loves to look at it to see what she is going through that may be similar to herself. Instagram was a great choice to point out for networking and I think it would be great for you to use!
ReplyDeleteHey Megan,
ReplyDeleteI think the part where you stated, "Many aspiring students, students, and professionals have accounts where they post about their schooling, work life, job, etcetera," is really cool. As a student at Stockton I think it would be cool to have a social media account for each different major where students in that major could post study tips, assignment tips, and so on. Social media is a great way to be connected and learn together; like the text stated. Does Stockton have something like this?
